Mark Andrew Grant (born October 24 in 1963) is an American former professional baseball player and the present color commentator for broadcasts on the San Diego Padres’ television broadcasts.

Grant lives at present in Alpine, CA, with his wife Mary with two sons and one daughter. In 2007 Mark Grant was honored by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine (of which he’s a member) for his work in the Alpine community. Mark Grant is also a frequent guest on sports talk programs broadcast on XX Sports Radio in San Diego and his own Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw show on 100.7 JACK FM.

Since 1997, Grant was hired to work in the Padres broadcast booth on TV for Channel 4 San Diego, working with a range of partners, including Mel Proctor and Matt Vasgersian. In 2012, Grant moved to the newly established regional television channel Fox Sports San Diego, which he was able to continue providing commentary in color with the famous announcer of the play-by-play Dick Enberg until the latter’s retirement at the conclusion of the season in 2016. The present co-anchor has been Don Orsillo. His style of commentary in color with his funny on-air humor has been a major factor in making “Mud” (a nickname given during his early playing days from Giants Coach Danny Ozark in reference to Mudcat Grant) one of the most popular among Padres fans.

Grant was selected in the first round from the San Francisco Giants in the 1981 Major League Baseball draft. Grant began his career in Major League Baseball as a member of the Giants from 1984 to 1987, at which point they traded him for the San Diego Padres. Grant was a player for the Padres until 1990 when the team traded him by the Atlanta Braves for Derek Lilliquist. In the off-season in 1992 He was signed by the Seattle Mariners to a one-year contract. The following year, he was signed with the Houston Astros. In the same season, on May 20th, he was sent to the team expansion Colorado Rockies for Braulio Castillo. He was let go from the club two months later and was signed by the California Angels on August 20.

In 1994 the year he was away from the game to host the talk radio show KFMB-AM and also broadcast Padres matches for the station. Grant returned to baseball in 1995 , when he pitched for Chicago Cubs AAA affiliate Iowa. In 1996, he played with the CPBL’s Uni President Lions and was officially ended his baseball career after he left the Lions.
